Vanilla Fudge is an American band that first came to prominence in 1967. The band subsequently recorded a number of albums between 1967 and when they split in 1970. Vanilla Fudge also enjoyed success in the American singles chart with a slowed down arrangement of the Supremes hit You Keep Me Hangin’ On.
Formed by keyboardist Mark Stein and rhythm section Tim Bogert (Bassist) and Carmine Appice. The final ember was guitarist Vince Martell. In addition to the cover of the Supremes hit the band who were enamoured of the Beatles also covered Ticket To Ride and Eleanor Rigby which were apparently thought of favourably by the Beatles. The band were criticised by some critics for merely being a covers band however the band were more than capable of writing their own material and as arrangers the success of the various covers the band did speaks for itself.
The band split for the first time in 1970 with Bogert and Appice forming the hard rock outfit Cactus before reappearing in 1972 with Jeff Beck in Beck Bogert and Appice. This supergroup however only managed to record one officially released studio album and a live album released only in Japan. Following the break up of BBA Tim Bogert and Carmine Appice followed their own routes before re forming Vanilla Fudge in 1982. There have been other reunions since then which have seen the band recording and playing concerts.
