Cologne is well known for its stalwart traditions: the carnival, the Kolsch beer, the cathedral, the football team 1. FCK - the latest one: GUN BARREL, Germany’s hardest Rock’n’Roll band! Established by musical institution and guitar player Rolf Tanzius, who found his matching pieces with vocalist Guido Feldhausen and bass player Holger Schulz, and, for the time being, a studio drummer, the boys secure themselves Limb Music Products as a long-term partner with their self-financed EP "Back to Suicide" in 2000.
Only one year later - in the meantime, Toni Pinciroli took over the drum job - their debut "Power Dive" is released and strikes the totally unprepared Metal scene like lightning. The twelve straight heavy rock tracks with their staggering riffs and earpiercing choruses are exactly the right fuel for the scene which is totally annoyed by grungy Rock and gloomy Metal. Like a mixture of Rose Tattoo, Thunderhead, AC/DC and Motorhead, the boys blow away your speakers and get great reviews from everywhere.
But the true magic of GUN BARREL just unfolds in the glare of the spot lights. The band does several festival performances and a tour with the Traceelords and Asher in 2002, and at the beginning of 2003, the album "Battle-Tested" marks the next peak of their career. Again, the natives of Cologne get a lot of fantastic reviews and romp the stages of Germany, Luxemburg, and The Netherlands together with different bands like Rose Tattoo, Molly Hatchet, Subway To Sally, Skew Siskin, Holy Moses, Paragon, Goddess Of Desire and Torment. Finally, GUN BARREL deliver an ingenious "home game" in front of thousands of fans during the Cologne Ringfest, and even stand their ground more than successful amongst a billing consisting of Black- and Death Metal bands during the 1001 Watt Festival in Skien / Norway.
2004 starts with a terrific performance at the Rockstation Festival in Ankara / Turkey, in front of almost 2500 raging fans. Following: a tour through Italy with Rain, and at the Hall of Fame Festival in Wacken the band snatches a fixed starting position for the big Wacken festival, the most famous Metal Open Air worldwide. After the gig at the Hard’n’Heavy Summernight in Bonn, bass player Holger leaves for Australia - he wants to realize his dreams of emigration. Tom Kintgen, a longtime friend of the band, takes over the vacant position and is brilliant, as the whole band is, during the great Wacken Festival gig which is also being tape-recorded for two features on the Wacken Anniversary CD and DVD. In the midst of the preparations for the third album "Bombard Your Soul" the band replaces singer Guido by newcomer Xaver Drexler. A real gain - that could be heard clearly not only on the new songs, but also during the performances at Metalcamp, Rock am Eislek and Headbangers Open Air.
