I was not always totally charmed by the German Metalium records on the score of too much metal clichйs in a row and not all of their songs were that strong. It changed a bit when I saw the band live this year in January. Their spontaneous show made it a fine metal evening and the band obviously stands behind their attitudes. Maybe this live registration could be a wind-fall.
Indeed, it is. Besides, it happens to be the second summary DVD (that’s why it is called part II, hehe) released by the maximum velocity power metal band of Hamburg and this time it includes a summary of the years 2001 till 2006. I wrote earlier that Metalium is a very productive band and this is illustrated again by the fact one can find almost four hours material on this DVD. They conventionally start with a concert registration, but the bonus material is worth seeing too. In an extensive interview, all of the band members talk freely and in despite of a bit stereotype questions you keep on listening to their words. Even more enjoyable is the on the road and behind the scenes material with images of Japan, Italy and Spain.
The performance of Uriah Heep’s ‘Gypsy’ with Ken Hensley himself as special guest is a summit, concerning the contribution of Jutta Weinhold in ‘Rock ‘n’ Roll’ (Led Zeppelin), that’s a matter of opinions. Furthermore we get a view on the making of the studio album ‘As One’ (2004). For fans of fast power/heavy metal with some epic and bombastic penchant, this DVD will bring you many headbanging hours.
