If there’s one German band embodying the monumental and unforgotten heights of 90s Swedish Death Metal, that must be FRAGMENTS OF UNBECOMING. Their musical direction is unavoidable, irrevocable and definite – in one word: true! However, unlike many of their peers who just limit themselves to cloning the genre’s templates, this band possesses huge amounts of originality as well as their own identity. Freshest example is their third album “Sterling Black Icon”, which does more than live up to the media interest created by its predecessor “Skywards / Chapter II – A Sylphe’s Ascension”. FRAGMENTS OF UNBECOMING have even managed to raise their already high self-imposed technical standards. "Sterling Black Icon" is more well-rounded, more balanced, and closer to the band’s goal, which is to write music that is original and straight-forward at the same time. The result opens up a whole new dimension, dark and mysterious like the album title.

Guitarist Sascha comments on the album: “The choice of the title was quite spontaneous. We had been writing songs under the working title ‘Sterling Black’. You could go on forever about meanings, interpretations and inspirations, but the basic idea was to write about the true, deep black. I’ve always had an affinity to that particular color and its appearance in countless things, be it material or immaterial. Black is universal, noble, never ending, and it’s the darkest element of our perception – in every aspect. That’s reason enough to name an album after it.”
