The band was formed in Erfurt back in 1985 and was one of the first metal bands in the former DDR. There was already a metal scene growing there and the band played there first shows as a quartet with singer Wittenburg joining the band later. The singer should become a charismatic trademark and a big part of the bands‘ success. The band toued exetensively and was becoming more and more a problem for the government. When the band played a show in Erfurt in 1986 the event was more than packed and the crowd went crazy and wild. After the show police visited the band backstage and disallowed them to continue to play. Now people really went mad and it should become a big prolem for the band. Macbeth were band, they were not allowed to play anymore live shows, the band‘s bus was taken off the license and the band lost their rehearsal room. In addition the band was filed to pay a fine etc. so the excitement in the band dissapeared. The drummer left and joined Blitzz, the bass player tried to move to the West and the guitarist had to join the army. Finally in 1987 the line up was complete again. The band was forced to change their name so they continued under the name CAIMAN. Singer Wittenburg though was put into jail for more than a year but was asked to join the band again as he came back from jail. When the DDR fell to pieces in 1989 the bassist and drummer left for West Germany. With the help of their friends Rochus they played their last two shows as in December 1989 singer Wittenburg comitted suicide which marked the end for the band.
In 1993 the band tried a comeback with a couple of shows and with maturing their sound but this also found an end as the band lost their drummer due to a tragic death.
It should take more than a decade to see the band live again. With old and new songs aboard they openend up for In Extremo and The Bones and could really get some great success. Now finally the first real studio album of the band sees the light of day. The band already did a self-financed album called „Macbeth“ but „Gotteskrieger“ is their first major release. It offers grooving, pounding thrash metal with many old school metal influences and a touch of Boehse Onkelz attitude combined with agressive and intelligent German lyrics. With MACBETH the next band from Thuringen after Eisregen and Die Apokalyptischen Reiter leaves the underground and not many bands deserve it more after their enormous belief they have have proven in their dramatic history!
