Deep Purple is the third studio album by English hard rock band Deep Purple, released in 1969 on Harvest Records in the UK and on Tetragrammaton in the US. It was to be the last album with the original lineup.
Tetragrammaton ran into difficulty over the use of the Vatican owned Hieronymus Bosch painting "The Garden of Earthly Delights". Incidentally "The Garden of Earthly Delights" was originally in color, although it appears in black and white on the cover due to a printing error for the original cover layout and the band opted to keep it that way. A portion of this same panel of "The Garden of Earthly Delights" was also used by the American band Pearls Before Swine on their 1967 release One Nation Underground, where it appears in its original color.
