Three years after the release of the disappointing, in my opinion, “Soft Dogs” the Danish rockers are back with a “fresh” album .You may ask why I put quotes in the word fresh .The answer is that “Scare Yourself” was released in 2005, but their fans in the rest of the word had to wait one year for the worldwide release. I don’t know why this happened .Maybe they couldn’t find the right label.
First of all I want to say congratulations to the band about the production of Scare Yourself .They did it without any help from a professional producer, but the result is excellent. The band seems to be in great form specially their singer Jesper Binzer whose voice is amazing. All the songs differ between them and from the beginning to the end of the album there is something of interest in every song .It is a perfect mixture from all D-A-D albums with the exception of “Scare Yourself” (the song) which has a completely different style. With songs like the heavy Lawrence Of Suburbix and the classic rock “Camping In Scandinavia” (my favorite) , D-A-D shows everyone that they can still write good music.
Scare Yourself is definitely the best album D-A-D have done since Simpatico. If you are a fan go and get it now! The rest if you want to hear something different, like a very good Scandinavian hard rock album, you should check it out. I hope they will continue in this direction .Finally I should add that the worldwide release of “Scare Yourself” includes a bonus track “You Filled My Head” and a video clip of “Scare Yourself”. www.metalfrontiers.com
Formed during 1982 in Copenhagen, this eccentric Danish outfit was originally launched as DISNEYLAND AFTER DARK, but the threat of legal action by the Disney Corporation necessitated a name change to D.A.D. The group had been formulated circa 1982 by erstwhile ADS bassist Stig Pedersen, vocalist Jesper Binzer, and drummer Peter Lundholm Jensen. Initially Pedersen's then girlfriend, Lene Glumer, handled lead vocals. The quartet's inaugural live performance came on December 3rd 1982 at the Sundby Algaard Youth Club. The very next day Glumer was told her services were no longer required.
Before evolving into a full blooded Rock band, D.A.D plied what they termed 'Cow Punk', a deliberately upbeat, Country orientated take on the Punk scene, and issued two independent albums on the Mega label. The band supported GHOSTDANCE on a British tour in 1987 with Peter Lundholm on drums, before signing a deal with Warner Brothers for 1989's 'No Fuel Left For The Pilgrims'. The major label, reputedly having shelled out a $1,000,000 for the band, certainly placed great faith in the band and D.A.D. would be the focus of an enormous promotional push.
Noted for stig Pedersen's two stringed bass guitar and white steel Army helmet as much as the band's bizarre sofa stagesets, D.A.D found a good deal of support in Japan, resulting in the 'Osaka After Dark - Live' album for the Japanese market only. D.A.D supported OZZY OSBOURNE in 1991 before undertaking a headline European tour pushing the 'Riskin' It All' album. D.A.D. would succeed in fostering a dedicated cult fanbase but could not transfer their quirkiness into substantial sales. The group was dropped by Warner Brothers, but would quickly snapped up by Chrysalis Records and returned to the fray in 1995 with the 'Help Yourselfish' opus. The band subsequently signed to EMI Records for 1996's 'Good Clean Family Entertainment You Can Trust' album.
Despite not breaking internationally, D.A.D remained a force to be reckoned with in Europe. Their 2001 album 'Everything Glows' would be issued in Japan with two bonus tracks, namely 'Last Mango In Paris' and 'I'm A Little Cloud'. The band would welcome new drummer Laust Sonne, previously with TIM CHRISTENSEN's band, into the fold the same year. www.rockdetector.com
