- "SOON TO BE HUGE" METAL BAND RELEASE THEIR SECOND ALBUM ON PROSTHETIC!!! Byzantine is total skull-flying M-E-T-A-L replete with wailing solos, thick acerbic vocals and vigorous time shifts that, combined, can only hint at years of thrashing to the likes of Dark Angel, Forbidden and Exhorder. Scrupulous time-shifts and strategically-placed off-beats give things a cold menacing appeal a la early Meshuggah while the occasional guitar squeal spurts a big ol' "Fuck, yeah!" to the likes of Zakk Wylde !!!

Charleston, West Virginia Tech-Metalcore combo, distinctive for its use of environmental issues and Appalachian history as lyrical subject matter. The group's rise coincided with the burgeoning New Wave of American Heavy Metal movement. BYZANTINE was initiated as a Chapmanville trio of singer Chris Ojeda, guitarist Tony Rohrbough and bassist Chris Adams in the Summer of 2000. Both Ojeda and Adams had previously worked with Morgantown based Thrash Metal band NEW FAMILY. Opening live shows saw the band employing a drum machine. An inaugural four song demo toward the close of 2000 was capitalised on by a seven track effort the following year, securing a deal with Los Angeles based Prosthetic Records and inducting Charleston native Matt Wolfe on drums. A heavy touring regime then ensued, BYZANTINE acting as road partners to the likes of HIMSA, CALIBAN, ALL THAT REMAINS and LAMB OF GOD.
Debut album 'The Fundamental Component' arrived in February of 2004, promoted by gigs as opening act for PRONG on a two week run of dates in late June. BYZANTINE teamed up with BEYOND THE EMBRACE and CHILDREN OF TRAGEDY for the 'Sofa King Metal' tour commencing 24th September at the Sound Factory in Charleston, West Virginia.
Taking the title from a biblical quote, the band set '...And They Shall Take Up Serpents' as the name of their sophomore album, scheduled for May 2005 through Prosthetic Records. However, the band parted ways with Chris Adams in February. BYZANTINE headlined a UK tour in May with support from D-RAIL and INDICA. North American touring in June found the band forming a road alliance with EYEHATEGOD and Canadians BURIED INSIDE. The group then teamed up with GIZMACHI, BLOODSIMPLE and headliners SIX FEET UNDER for US dates announced as commencing in July. However, this trek would be postponed.
The band announced a September 2005, five week US road partnership dubbed the 'International Extreme Music Festival' in collaboration with GOD DETHRONED, NIGHTRAGE, EPOCH OF UNLIGHT, HELL WITHIN and LILITU. This tour added German acts LEAVES' EYES and ATROCITY in October. Extended touring, dubbed the 'Under The Underground' dates, had BYZANTINE sharing stages with HALO OF LOCUSTS and THE DREAM IS DEAD. However, the band parted ways with lead guitarist Tony Rorhbough, hiring Eric Seevers of LIECUS as tour fill-in.
The band announced their 2006 season of live campaigning with US dates in March sharing stages AGNOSTIC FRONT, STILL REMAINS, and AGNOSTIC FRONT. These shows would be backed by a Donnie Searls directed promotional video for the album track 'Jeremiad'.
