From Frankfurt to Frisco - we destroy every disco!
In the year of the beer 1996, slogan kings and keg killers Tankard signed a contract with Century Media. Defiant to the core, they declared war on all wimps and drinkers of non alcoholic beer on their self-explanatory “Disco Destroyer” whose immortal slogan “From Frankfurt to Frisco we destroy every disco” joins equally iconic pieces of partisan poetry like “Are you tired of bands that look better than your girlfriend?” or “At war with breakdancers”, aimed at Venom’s “At war with Satan”. Heck, even Metallica laughed their butts off when they read it on a poster somewhere. It didn’t help much, of course, thrash still being so unbelievably out of style like shoulder pads; but it did come as the right signal from a band still pretending it’s 1988. Oh what a joy to behold! Yet, with founding member Andreas Bulgaropulos calling it quits to start a family in Berlin, it brought them back to the present all too soon. Succeeding axe shredder Andi Gutjahr of course was one of those rare lucky finds the band is pleased with to this day; back then, however, nobody as of yet.
Some essential facts about founding member Andreas Bulgaropulos:
- didn’t even like beer until he was in his thirties
- protected his room with plastic film every time the boys came over to party
- had a folk rock band called Ynis Witrin in which he played the flute
- his wife is a friend of long-time producer Harris Johns
- writes Tankard lyrics to this day
Some essential facts about successor Andi Gutjahr:
- began his career playing bass
- prepared “Serial Killer” off “Disco Destroyer” for his audition
- is supplying the bulk of todays’ songwriting material
- his favourite Tankard album is “Beast of Bourbon”
