Starting in October of 2012, EMI will be issuing an ongoing series of special limited edition Iron Maiden vinyl picture disc albums. Comprised of the first eight albums of Iron Maiden's career, all released in the 1980's, each picture disc will be packaged in a gatefold cover with full color printed inner sleeves and pressed on heavyweight vinyl cut from the original album master tapes. These vinyl picture discs are being released to commemorate Iron Maiden's current Maiden England tour which comprises largely 80’s material.

The albums will be released chronologically between October of 2012 and February of 2013, starting with Iron Maiden (1980) and Killers (1981) in October, followed by The Number of the Beast (1982) and Piece Of Mind (1983) in November. To open the new year Powerslave (1984) and Live After Death (1985) will be released in January, while the final two titles, Somewhere In Time (1986) and Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son (1988) will close out the series in February.

Iron Maiden's landmark 1980 debut kicked the door in on the New Wave of British Heavy Metal with its punk-rock DIY production, blinding speed, raw aggression and frequent progressive-rock like tempo changes, while simultaneously making them the forebearers of the movement alongside Judas Priest and Motorhead. The band's only album produced by Will Malone, it climbed all the way to #5 on the British charts on the strength of the anthemic "Running Free" and the ambitious seven-minute plus "Phantom of the Opera." Pure unadultered heavy metal which stands as the perfect amalgamation of the band's influences and their appetite for innovation!
