Together since 1993, Dry Kill Logic (formerly Hinge) have seen their fair share of ups and downs writing the music they love. The band released two records independently ('98's Cause Moshing is Good Fun! & '99's Elemental Evil) on their own indie label Psychodrama before partnering with Scrap 60 productions in 2000 to produce the highly acclaimed "The Darker Side of Nonsense", released in 2001 through Roadrunner/Island Def Jam Records. In 2002 the band saw the departure of guitarist Scott Thompson from the fold; DKL also parted ways with Roadrunner that year in order to make the kind of record they want to make.
"We see this as a job we love" explains Cliff. "When you have outside pressure forcing you in a direction you don't want to go, all of a sudden it turns into a job that isn't fulfilling creatively. And what is the point of being in a band if you aren't achieving what you want to creatively?" With a newfound focus the band entered their rehearsal studio in Mt. Vernon, NY in February of 2003 to begin writing what would eventually become "The Dead & Dreaming". The writing began with a fury, as the band penned over 35 songs, including the 11 that will make up their sophomore release.
The band took a few breaks in between studio sessions to headline a healthy dose of shows including their first ever arena show in Anchorage, Alaska and select shows on the 2003 Jagermeister Music Tour with metal icons Slayer and Hatebreed. The time had come to bring the new material to the only place that mattered – the stage. "All the shows were sold out, and we were playing cities that we had not been to since 2001. The kids would remember what we were wearing last time we played, what the set list was, and they were all really enthusiastic about the new material and the direction of the new record. It was humbling, to say the least," states Cliff. "All told, we couldn't be happier with the songs on this record, the team we are working with and the possibilities for the future," says Jason. "The early response to the new music has been nothing short of unbelievable, and the future looks bright".
