The eleventh record from the GRAMMY-nominated metal band, now more than two decades into their career. It is the first album they have made in The Hangar, their own creative hub and clubhouse in Orlando. It is also the first to officially welcome drummer Alex Rüdinger into the studio, alongside vocalist and guitarist Matthew K. Heafy, guitarist Corey Beaulieu and bassist Paolo Gregoletto.
The band reunited with longtime producer Josh Wilbur, whose credits include Korn and Lamb of God. They also worked for the first time with mixer Jacob Hansen, known for his work with Volbeat and Amon Amarth. Gregoletto describes the aim as finding the ground between resting on past achievements and reinventing for its own sake, presenting the core of the band in ways they had not tried before. Beaulieu says the writing centred on big riffs and big hooks, and sums it up plainly: 'We made the record we'd been dying to make.'
