Cruachan: (Cruachu, Cruachain, Rath Cruachain) the ancient capital of the kingdom of Connacht, and the seat of Ailill and Medb in the Ulster Cycle of Irish mythology. Its site is now known as Rathcroghan, a low mound surrounded by a complex of archeological sites near Tulsk in County Roscommon. A standing stone there is said to mark the grave of Dathi, one of the last pagan High Kings of Ireland.
Cruachan: the name of an Irish Celtic metal band founded in 1992 by Keith Fay after the end of Minas Tirith which existed since 1989. Cruachan mixes Celtic folk music, history and mythology with Extreme Metal. Cruachan's first release in 1995 (Tuatha na Gael) was influenced heavily by Black Metal, they have never lost their black metal edge or roots but today they incorporate all types of extreme metal into their sound. Recent work has defined Cruachan's unique sound and style, mixing metal, folk and even classical music.
