For a long time Fix and his friend Fenrir have had the idea and have shared the interest of a musical project with the emphasis on germanic/celtic mythology and sagas. With Fix composing the music and Fenrir writing the lyrics, the chemistry was right for explosive results.
During a drinking spree, Fix noticed rhunes that he once carved into his drinking horn, and in that very moment the suitable name for the band was found.
ODROERIR: is a term from the nordic mythology, that represents the mythical Skaldenmet of the „Edda“. Odin once took him for the Assyrians and humans to gain the gift of poetry and infinite wisdom.
During autumn in 1998 the project was officially founded. From the start the music was intended to be a calmer and more epic form of metal, where the folklore/medieval melodies should dominate. In November of the same year they completed an advance demo tape with the help of session musicians. The tape contained 4 unfinished tracks sans vocals and was recorded purely for the then involved parties and Christoph Dobberstein of Ars Metalli, who had proclaimed his interest in the band a while before.
The following year, Fix restructured the band to enable live activities. Fenrir left Odroerir, but some of his ideas still ended up on the first two recordings and he continued to support the band, but handing lyrical duties over to Fix.
Odroerir then consisted of: Fix – Vocals, Guitars; Stickel – Vocals, Guitars; Ralph – Bass; Ivonne – Vocals; Philipp – Drums.
This constellation recorded the first official 5-track demo "Iring" in early 2000 and almost immediately the first shows were done. The band then recorded their debut album "Laßt euch sagen aus alten tagen..." in the Powertrack Studio. A year later the album was published by Ars Metalli, a label that unfortunately then started it's slow demise. The consequence was that the debut album was nowhere available and the collaboration broke apart.
Meanwhile new songs had been composed that people could hear at the band's live shows. Two of those songs, initially intended as promo material, were chosen in 2003 by Thiess to be released as a 7inch EP on his young new label Det Germanske Folket. While in the studio the band separated from their long-time bassist, who was then replaced by Manuel, alias Marley. After a long hunt, Veit completed the lineup on Violin in March 2004. Until this point Ivonne had reproduced the violin on keyboards in live situations. In a studio situation Olaf Wald played the actual violin parts.
In the last quarter of the same year, the band decided to commence recording their mammoth piece, a audio version of the "Edda" and entered the by now legendary Powertrack Studio (Menhir, Gernotshagen, Surturs Lohe) once again.
Work on the new album "Gotterlieder 1" was completed a couple of months later due to complications. Thank the Gods! Einheit Produktionen showed interest in the album and are releasing it end of August.
The band wants to create a serious picture about the early history of our ancestors (a history that has often been taboo in our country), without kitsch-factors or pushing it into the romanticised, pseudo-esoterik or even political arena.
