Two front ladies with completely different voices (classical soprano and rock singer) make the sound of Coronatus really unigue. The band’s sound can be sorted into gothic and symphonic metal. CORONATUS were founded first as a project of drummer Mats Kurth and Georgios Grigoriadis. After diverse line-ip changes the right foramtion was found end of 2004/early 2005 with the two front ladies Carmen R. Schafer (guest singer at Illuminate and Brainstorm etc.) and Viola Schuch the first demo "My Rose Desire" was done and a song was placed on the November issue of Hungarian Hammer mag which led the band to some touring in Hungary a.o. on the Gothica V. -Festival in Budapest.

Consequently the first album Album „Lux Noctis“ was started in 2006. The songs include lyrics in German, English and Latin. The album was recorded and mixed at Klangschmiede Studio E by Markus Stock and Tobias Schonemann, of The Vision Bleak. To give it the final topping the band flew to Finland to have the mastering done in October 2006 at Finnvox-Studios in Helsinki by Mika Jussila (Nightwish, Children of Bodom etc.) The artwork was in the hands of Katja Piolka (Udo, Primal Fear, Leaves Eyes etc.) The band made their next step with signing at Massacre-Records for their first worldwide deal. The album was released on September 21st 2007 and did extremely well for a debut and marked one of the most remarkable debuts of late 2007.

Further highlights were: In January 2008 Coronatus supported Within Temptation at the Petofi Hall in Budapest in front of 1500 fans who really celebrated the band.

The songwriting for the 2nd album „Porta Obscura“ had already started in April 2008 although soprano singer Carmen was pregnant and gave birth to a daugther in May. Again production took place at Studio E with Markus Stock producing. Biggest news is the band now got two guitarists - Johann Frey is the new axe-guy who is usually playing in a well-known black metal band under pseudonym. Also new in the band is femal singer Ada Flechtner, who joined the band in 2007 after the Lux Noctis recordings and replaced Viola Schuch. Mastering again (never change a winning team) was done at Finnvox-Studio in Helsinki with Mika Jussila. “Porta Obscura“ will be out on November 28th in two formats: the limited Digipak will have next to the 11 album tracks two additional bonus tracks. A completelly new recorded Latin version of a track from “lux Noctis” with an big time orchestral arrangement and the first ever Coronatus song “Volles Leben” in its initial form with male vocals from the “project days” of Coronatus (2002) with a great recording done by Achim Kohler (Primal Fear, Sinner, etc.) at the House of Music, Winterbach.
