Gothenburg’s once unholy trinity: AT THE GATES, IN FLAMES and DARK TRANQUILLITY. What’s left of it you might ask? Well: the Bjorler brothers went down in their finest hour (“Slaughter Of The Soul”), Friden and his beer buddies in IN FLAMES are going American all of a sudden which means that DARK TRNQUILLITY is the only hope of keeping that sound alive’n’kicking. So far they’ve done just that; D.T. have been a consistent band through the years releasing several high quality albums and now their first DVD ever for you to enjoy in your living room.

It’s good to finally get D.T. on DVD format and actually see the band in action. A live concert in Poland is the main event for this adventure. No song from “Skydancer” sadly but enough classic material to keep you fastened in your chair; “The Wonders At Your Feet”, “Hedon”, “Haven”, “Punish My Heaven” (godly performance) and “Zodijackyl Light” flow smoothly on the scene. The band is very energetic, unlike the very silent and hardly noticeable crowd and plays the songs without any difficulties, very enjoyable. Despite skipping a passage in “Hedon” frontman Mikael Stanne works the crowd (without any response so to say) and stays very active throughout the whole show, his performance really captures me in a spell, such anger and frustration one mans world. Guitar duo Sundin and Henriksson go about their riffs and solos without any trouble at all, man how I love to watch Sundin play that solo on “The Wonders At Your Feet”!!!

The other interesting part of the DVD is the interview with Stanne conducted by some Polish guy I think. No Mr. Rock Star bitching here, he seems like a very cool down to earth guy who’s excited to tell the story about his band and is very eager to get out on tour and touch people (in a lyrical way he he). The bootleg part contains some pretty raw stuff and shows what happens when D.T. plays a small venue. The two promo videos are nothing to get freaked about, they’re just too weird for me to grasp, but they might have the opposite effect on you.

Good graphics, good material, some indifferent sections, there are better DVDs out there you want to purchase, yet “Live Damage” still is a good product for the fans of this great act.
