Florida's MILLENIUM was previously known as EYEWITNESS having issued an eponymous 1995 record and a 1996 follow up 'Messiah Complex'. Guitarist RALPH SANTOLLA had also made his mark in more aggressive realms as touring guitarist for Chuck Schuldiner's premier Death Metal band DEATH. With a change in membership and a shift in musical direction the band, led by guitarist Ralph Santolla, evolved into MILLENIUM during 1996 . As MILLENIUM the group opened up with 1999's 'Millenium'.
The 'Angelfire' album would witness the introduction of TEER guitarist Shane French into the fold. Although hailed as a near classic of the genre upon its release the progress afforded the band by 'Angelfire' was all but quashed when frontman Todd Plant exited. By mid 2002 he would be on the live circuit once more in a band also incorporating former CHICAGO guitarist Chris Pinnick and drummer Chet McCracken of THE DOOBIE BROTHERS.This setback would be rectified by the inclusion of erstwhile VAGABOND and THE SNAKES singer JORN LANDE, a man of immense vocal stature and an in demand session singer for acts varied as Metal band MUNDANUS IMPERIUM.
The 'Hourglass' album would be recorded in America, Norway and the UK during the summer of 2000. Distinctive keyboard parts were supplied by the RAINBOW and OZZY OSBOURNE and WHITESNAKE veteran DON AIREY. Other contributors included TNT's Dag Stokke and ZON and REFUGEE man Howard Helm.
Both Santolla and Shane French guested on JORN LANDE's 2000 solo album 'Starfire'. Post MILLENIUM Lande would be employed as live vocalist for YNGWIE MALMSTEEN as well as putting his efforts into the Progressive Rock ARK combo and acting as session man for BEYOND TWILIGHT's 2001 opus 'The Devil’s Hall Of Fame'. Lande was announced as having left MILLENIUM during May of 2002, his replacement swiftly being announced as none other than Darren Smith, better known for his role as the former drummer of HAREM SCAREM. However, shortly after this announcement it would be learned that it was erstwhile frontman Todd Plant that had re-taken the role.
Santolla revealed the advent of his first solo album, 'Shaolin Monks In The Temple Of Metal', for release in August through the Frontiers label. Guests on the album included erstwhile DARE, ASIA and TEN guitarist VINNY BURNS and DREAMTIDE guitar player Helge Engelke, both appearing on the track 'Starlight'.
Ralph Santolla also operates MONARCH and SANTOLLA and would subsequently join high profile Heavy Metal band ICED EARTH. Shane French, retaining his MILLENIUM ties, would join former SAVATAGE vocalist Zak Stevens act CIRCLE II CIRCLE in early 2003. Lande came to the fore with the high profile MASTERPLAN project band of 2002. Both J. Todd Plant and Santolla featured as part of the BROKEN WING credited Rick Duncan's epic Progressive Rock project CRYPTIC VISION in 2003.
MILLENIUM marked a return in 2004 with the 'Jericho' opus, this record taking a distinct turn towards heavier material. The band unit would be completely overhauled for these sessions, now counting Todd Plant, Ralph Santolla, Shane French, TEN and VAUGHN credited Steve McKenna and BLACKHAWK's Tere Bertke both contributing bass guitar with ICED EARTH and DEMONS AND WIZARDS man Mark Prator on drums. Also issued in October would be the retrospective compilation 'The Best of... And More'. Included would be two unreleased tracks from the 'Hourglass' sessions and demo tracks for 'Jericho'.
In November Santolla made a public statement revealing that he was suffering from degenerative condition in the bones of his jaw. Costly treatment would include bone grafts and reconstructive surgery and to offset some of the medical bills a benefit concert in Tampa, headlined by SEBASTIAN BACH, would be scheduled for January of 2005. That same month, Todd Plant joined Florida's TEER as their new frontman. May found Santolla joining arch Black / Death Metal act DEICIDE for US touring.
