Founded in 1987, PINK CREAM 69 are something of an international act with ANDY DERIS and Alfred Koffler being German, Dennis Ward is American and Kosta Zafirou Greek and the group won a local band competition in 1988 which brought them to the attention of Epic Records.
In the ten years since their formation PINK CREAM 69 has proved to be a major success in Germany and Japan and certainly achieved a great deal with breaks like getting the support slot to WHITE LION on their American band's 1989 European tour before headlining their own shows. Indeed, none other than British hopefuls LITTLE ANGELS opened for the band in Germany during 1992 before PINK CREAM 69 guested for EUROPE on their British tour of the same year.
Unfortunately, some wags tended not to take the group too seriously and dubbed them 'WORLD CUP 66', in reference to Germany's defeat by England in the football World Cup Final at Wembley back in 1966. The group had debuted with a self-titled effort in 1989 and the 'pinkies' followed it up with the 'One Size Fits All' in 1991, like the debut produced by Dirk Steffens.
The following year the strangely titled '49 Degrees / 8 Degrees' appeared that featured live and demo recordings of PINK CREAM 69 material (including KISS' 'Detroit Rock City') as the group hit Japan for the first time. These dates resulted in the 'Size It Up' live offering that would appear in Japan during 1994 after the group had issued a brand new album in the shape of 'Games People Play' and followed it up with a very successful German tour.
Amazingly, Deris joined HELLOWEEN in 1994, obviously feeling the chance was too good to turn down and having by now established that there were musical and personal differences between himself and his bandmates in any case. A great deal of bad blood would flow between the two parties in the press afterwards.
