Santiago, the capital of Chile is a virtual no man's land for the music industry, but also a perfect breeding ground for aggressive metal, from which the band CRIMINAL arose. Since the release of their first album in the mid nineties, the band has accomplished five digit sales figures in their home country alone, live shows alongside the genre's top acts (including Slayer, Sepultura, Kreator, amm. ), heavy rotation on MTV Latino, and extensive tours throughout the continent.
In 2002 the creative core of the band relocated to the UK and teamed up with some of the most respected musicians of the British extreme metal scene! The sound they developed together is a groundbreaking mixture of European brutality and industrialism with the all out thrash riffing and guttural vocals from the band's early South American days. Now, after four released albums, CRIMINAL entered the Stage One Studios in Buhne, Germany in May 2005 with producer Andy Classen (Dew-Scented, Disbelief, amm) to record their most intense and outstanding work so far! This time around the group focused on more straightforward, brutal riffs, catchy choruses and screaming leads, paired with the amazing drumming of Zac O'Neil. The title "Sicario" is a Spanish word for assassin and is most commonly associated with the South American mafias and drug cartels.
On the musical direction of the album, vocalist/guitarist Anton Reisenegger comments: "It's brutal, in-your-face thrash metal. I think in a time when everyone and their mother are trying to sound like AT THE GATES or IN FLAMES, this is definitely going to turn some heads. I see it as being in the tradition of bands like SLAYER, CARCASS or MACHINE HEAD, with massive riffs, very cool solos, and totally pissed-off vocals. Not to mention Zac's insane drum work.
