The German goth metal veterans are back – but differently than expercted. How they would have been able anyway to top the title of their 2005“Ultimate Darkness”?

Simpky they can’t – strongly matured and ignoring all short-lived treds and fashions Darkseed leed the listener into a new decade of their all overwhelming darkness.

The seed was sawn back in 1002 by Stefan Hertrich and Harald Winkler by doing the demos “Sharing the Grave”and in the following year “Darksome Thoughts”, into the belly of mother earth with the 1994 released Mini-CD “Romantic Tales” and groing by the albums (“Midnight Solemnly Dance” 1996, “Spellcraft“ 1997, Nuclear Blast) and becming matured with the 1999 album “Give me Light” meaning the end of the first cycle of growth. Touring all through Europe and shows everywhere helped the evolution of the band being proven by their very successful album in 2000 entitled “Diving into Darkness” , from their early romantic, dreamlike darkness to the heaviness of the black new millennium decade. More electronics made themselves room in the flood of heavy riffing, bloody reality, dark poetics and isolated, sold darkness. Never to be as “modern” as other bands of the genre want to be but always serious and emotional Darkseed took the step in 2003 with “Astral Adventures” to walk against the trend with a careful and spititual view on their dark world to strike back with double force in 2005 with “Ultimate Darkness” to perfectionize their emotional and musical depth that the band stood for since their beginning and led them to a strong, loyal fanbase.

After the departure of singer and founding member Stefan Hertrich in 2006 it seemed the band has come to an end. But the guys evolved personally and musically due to the work with world stars like Harold Faltermeyer (Soundtrack to the computer game lblockbuster “Two Worlds”, 2007),side projects like “Shiva in Exile” (2004 , voted best “Best New Age/World Album”) and a couple of solo CD releases of the guys around the band (Tom Gilcher – Guitars, Armin Doerfler – Keyboards, Maurizio Guolo – Drums ) led by guitarist, main songwriter and producer Thomas Herrmann kept the lineup alive in the last years. With founding member Harald Winkler taking over the vocals and the joining of new member Michael Behnke (Ex-Eisbrecher) a new kick was given in the studio. Songwriting and recording were given more time and the production could be completed indepently in the bands own studio.

The result of this work is “Poison Awaits” (2010, Massacre Records) the undoubtelly most variable Darkseed album. Breaking up general structures in their music the band shows how much the dark seed matured in the meantime: solid, straight and steady they deliver their goth sound impressingly with their own interpretation of a black beauty.

Darkseed have developed impressingly and led their sound to a wide open universe of darkly present and emotional vision.
