"Lost Pearls" is a compilation of out takes recorded by the Mark II Wishbone Ash around the time of their albums "No Smoke Without Fire" and "Just Testing." The original tapes (stored for many years in a converted pigsty) have been remastered to a high standard by former bassist Martin Turner. This album is much more than a collection of rejected tracks. I would go so far as to say that it could have been an album in its own right at the time of recording. The general feel is more "Rock and Roll" than the tracks which did make the two albums mentioned above. The opener, "Is Justice Done" is one of my favourites - it really rocks and includes some great drumming from Steve Upton. Other highlights include "Where You Been?", and two instrumentals, "John Sherry Jam" and "Sheriff of Sherwood." The latter is an embryonic, instrumental version of "Stand and Deliver" from NSWF. There is one quieter song ("Hard On You") which is spoiled a little by some out of tune vocals but this is a minor criticism. I would recommend this album to anyone who enjoyed Wishbone Ash's music in the late 1970s, or indeed to anyone who likes the current band.
