Glenn Hughes' early days as a bassist and singer were spent with TRAPEZE. Over three albums, this heavy funk-rock trio blazed a path across the Southern half of the United States of America, but despite years of hard work never managed to break through in a big way. When the offer of a job in DEEP PURPLE came in 1973, Hughes was quick to take it. A year on, Deep Purple announced their decision to split in 1976, and looked forward to blossoming solo careers.
Hughes had been planning his first solo album long before the split. His new solo album evolved back home in the Midlands when Glenn was introduced to the owner of a small local studio, and it took just a fortnight to record - aided by players like Mel Galley and Dave Holland (founder members of Trapeze, and soon to go on to achieve a fair degree of success themselves in Whitesnake and Judas Priest respectively).
It was to be almost a year before the album saw the light of day, first in Germany in July 1977 and the UK a year later. Far removed from the hard rock of Purple, Glenn showcased his incredible vocal range over a more soulful collection of material - and the album received several rave reviews in the music press at the time. However, Glenn decided to do some live shows in America with his old mates in Trapeze and so the record got little promotion. It was also way out of sync with the Punk / New Wave music of the times, and disappeared quite quickly, becoming much sought after by collectors.
Glenn went on to do the HUGHES/THRALL album, and had spells with GARY MOORE and BLACK SABBATH but it wasn't until the excellent FROM NOW ON in 1994 that he cut another solo album. Since that time he has produced a regular series of very strong rock and soul records and toured regularly. His profile is now higher than ever as the recent buzz of excitement surrounding his proposed super-group Black Country serve to show.
Glenn co-operated on this re-release fully - writing notes and contributing four unissued bonus tracks, plus an unreleased single A-side. It has been many years since it first reappeared on CD, so there is a lot of demand for this
