After months of embedded patriotism, beautiful explosions and Hummers in hot pursuit, there is finally a glimpse of relevant news. Yes, because Operation Grindstorm has moved into a new phase of punishing grooves, tortured vocals, hi-speed attack drumming and guitars like carpets of cluster bombs. And why is that? The answer is "The Art Of Today", the second album from Gothenburg grindsters Relevant Few.
Just like its highly acclaimed predecessor "Who Are Those Of Leadership?", "The Art Of Today" was recorded live in one take, without overdubs and computerized Michael Jackson-shit. This orthodox view on how to record a really raw destroyer of an album not only highlights the awesome skills of the five piece, but it also captures a feeling of spontaneity sadly lacking in many records released nowadays. In addition, it gives you a fair idea of how this band sounds live (i.e. total noise destruction), so there's no excuse for you to cuddle up at home with milk and cookies the next time Relevant Few hits your town.
"The Art Of Today" is a big step forward for the band, but don't think for a second that they have mellowed down or sold out. Nope, Relevant Few are angrier than ever, the fast parts faster than ever, the slow parts slower than ever, the end result more terrifying than ever! This is heavy stuff, dude. New vocalist Henke Svensson shows just how much torture a human larynx can take, perhaps a little more than that. And the album cover was designed by Travis Smith (Opeth, King Diamond, Death, Testament) because even a stone earnest revolutionary product (!) like "The Art Of Today" must look cool in the record store. Welcome to Operation Grindstorm!
