Artist: SHADOWGARDEN [DRACONIAN]
Album: ASHEN (CD)

Release date: 2010
Media type: CD

Gothic rock full of longing, tragedy, and melancholy: Mastermind Johan Ericson (Draconian) reveals a further facet of his musical craftsmanship, proving that he still is in command when it comes to dark romanticism. As such, Shadowgarden's debut is nothing less than an enthralling gothic metal jewel characterized by somber riffs, driving rock grooves, catchy melodies, and wonderful vocal lines. Time and again, Lisa Johansson steps up to the microphone to lend her Draconian colleague exquisitely haunting vocals. The crystal-clear production provides the tracks with the necessary heaviness, while allowing both melody and refinement to shine in full splendor. Shawdowgarden's debut is a mature and sweeping gothic rock album that manages to spread its melancholic darkness while remaining far removed from the genre's overused cliches.
