1989's Behind the Eight-Ball is the debut album from German rockers Thunderhead. Not quite Hollywood-style hair metal, and not as polished as their countrymen Bonfire, Thunderhead had a hard-hitting but still catchy and melodic, straightforward rock n' roll sound. Sort of like Y&T but with a raspier vocalist. Singer Ted Bullet actually sounds a lot like Demon frontman Dave Hill. It's not terribly original, but Behind the Eight-Ball is a very fun, very rockin' album that's sure to get your head nodding and your hand reaching to turn up the volume.
Thunderhead lasted long enough to release two more albums, but the alternative/grunge wave of the early `90s pretty much did them in. If you're a fan of straightforward, melodic rock n' roll, particularly the `80s variety, Thunderhead is a band that's well worth checking out, and Behind the Eight-Ball is the perfect place to start.
