Without doubt the leading lady of Germany's Hard Rock scene. As premier German Metal band WARLOCK metamorphosed into lead vocalist Doro Pesch's solo vehicle, following the 1987 'Triumph And Agony' opus, any pretence at a band project was dropped in 1989 when 'Force Majeure' was issued under the title of simply DORO. The blonde siren had made a significant impact on the international Metal scene fronting WARLOCK over four successful albums. Once WARLOCK had attained a foothold it was only a matter of time before Doro was enticed out of the equation into a solo career. From a shaky start attempting to break the US market, Doro has since concentrated on her homeland, where her title of Metal queen has long been undisputed.
Her formative years had seen Pesch joined by guitarist Rudy Graf and bassist Frank Rittel, together with STALLION drummer Thomas Franke, billed as BEAST, issuing a rehearsal demo tape. Pesch, also having a tradition with her first band SNAKEBITE, Graf and Rittel duly forged WARLOCK, debuting for Mausoleum Records with the album 'Burning The Witches' in 1984.
The band backing Pesch on her February 1989 solo debut featured ex-RAINBOW drummer Bobby Rondinelli, guitarist John Devin and bassist Tommy Henriksen. Keyboards were contributed by DIO's Claude Schnell. Hendrickson later joined WAR AND PEACE. Rondinelli joined BLACK SABBATH and BLUE OYSTER CULT.
DORO soon relocated to New York to concentrate on the North American market. The ensuing 'Doro' album of 1990 was produced by KISS bassist / vocalist GENE SIMMONS and ex-BLACK N' BLUE (and then HARLOW) guitarist Tommy Thayer and includes a cover of the 1967 hit by THE ELECTRIC PRUNES 'I Had Too Much To Dream Last Night'. The album also featured three Simmons compositions including a rework of the KISS track 'Only You' which originally appeared on the band's unsuccessful '(Music From) The Elder' album. Bass guitar was delegated to Todd Jensen, of SEQUEL, HARLOW and MOVIE STAR repute.
For 1991's 'True At Heart' release DORO recorded in Nashville with producer Barry Beckett. The album featured a host of noted session players including GIANT guitarist Dann Huff, guitarist Michael Thompson, bassist Lee Sklar and drummer Eddie Bayers. Doro's touring line-up was augmented by keyboardist Paul Morris in 1992, who joined from New York's FROM THE FIRE.
