- REL DATE: 27 OCTOBER [!]
Noise Records continue their re-issues with the British heavy metal band Skyclad notable for their heavy folk influences and considered one of the pioneers of folk metal genre.
The etymology behind the term “skyclad” comes from a pagan/wiccan term for ritual nudity, in which rituals are performed with the participants metaphorically clad only by the sky, as a sign of equality. The name alludes both to the band’s religious leanings and to their social beliefs, as set out in the song “Skyclad” on their first album.
Prince Of The Poverty Line – 1CD & 2LP (Violet Vinyl) & 10” (Clear Vinyl)
Skyclad’s fourth album, first released in 1994 elevated them to the status of the ultimate pagan/folk metal band. The record was the perfect blend of the heaviness and aggression of metal with the catchy, bouncing rhythms of folk. The songs have a spectacular atmosphere and lyrical content focusing on urban and political unrest coupled with depression and existential angst. It is considered as their magnum opus by many and was critically received by both fans and industry alike.”
