“Metal goes commercial - the sell out has already started: Here comes the new kind of pop music”. I've heard statements like this more and more often within the last couple of months. Well, to be honest - I don't think so! Let's call it like it is: Our favorite bands have faded out of the chart shows of big TV-stations. They do not even play the video clips and, as if this is not enough, little narrow-minded VJs are making fun of the so called metal-aesthetic. Looking for shows with hard and heavy music? Almost nowhere to be found! The best you can find is a 30-minute show in the middle of the night. And on radio? German folk music versus Majorcan holiday songs. Cheers for that! But, on the other side, You will find more and more themes from the MONSTERS OF METAL collection on top of the official German charts over and over again - and that is achieved without the support of the great mass-media. Bands like Nightwish, Edguy, Machine Head, Apocalyptica and Iced Earth, all to be found on this DVD, can really stand their ground against their pop colleagues. If these video clips can not be found on TV, then the congenial DVD-series brings it to your screen. Nothing that can not be shown, every metal genre essential release, and no act too small. That is what I call a perfect co-existence. But let me tell you: before I start the congratulations round I will switch on the TV and have a look by myself.
