Necroticism – Descanting the Insalubrious is the third album from the band Carcass, released in 1991 through Earache Records. This album is the first to feature guitarist Michael Amott. It could be described as a concept album, as many of the tracks describe economical ways to dispose of dead bodies ("Pedigree Butchery", for example, proposes that dead humans be turned into pet food, "Carneous Cacoffiny" proposes to use human body parts as musical instruments, "Incarnated Solvent Abuse" proposes that human sinew be used to make a sort of animal glue, and in "Inpropagation" human remains are used as fertilizer).
Ken Owen and Jeff Walker said during The Pathologist's Report Part III: Mass Infection that they rejected the descriptions of Carcass' music on this album being "grindcore". While Owen acknowledges its death metal characteristics, both he and Walker express that they are more inclined towards calling their music on this album "progressive".
